Polyptychs
A polyptych is a work of art divided into more than one panel. Two panels make a diptych, three make a triptych, and so on.
Art collectors find that polyptychs will often fit into a space that a large painting will not. That's because polyptychs can be exhibited vertically or in blocks of 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 making a total of 4 or 6 works. For example, a narrow space between a room corner and a window is best served by small components of a polyptych exhibited in some way other than horizontally.
